Welcome from the Principal
Edwards is a school where a love of learning grows
Edwards Primary School was founded in 1737 by the Edwards family of Castlegore and since then has grown to become a leading primary school in County Tyrone today. As a school, we are very proud of our history, traditions and achievements over the past 278 years. We believe, that it takes a whole town to raise a child and as a result we constantly work in loco parentis with our immediate and extended community.
Edwards is a warm, friendly, successful and growing community of learning where each pupil can be assured of our dedication and commitment to ensuring that he/she enjoys a quality educational experience at nursery, foundation, key stage I and key stage II. As a school we provide a caring and supporting learning and teaching environment in which all are inspired to become confident, co-operative and mutually respectful individuals. We encourage dedication and thoughtfulness in all members of the school community to fulfil their potential as creative and reflective life-long learners and encourage a concern for equality of opportunity for all. Our excellent pastoral care arrangements ensure that every pupil is enabled to achieve his/her best. ETI reported in 2014 "The quality of the arrangements for pastoral care in the school and the nursery unit is outstanding. There is a very caring and inclusive ethos which permeates all aspects of the life and work of the school and in which every adult and child is valued."
In Edwards Primary School and Nursery Unit, the Governors and staff endeavour to provide education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief, practice and values. We strive to build upon the value of home and foster a strong sense of faith and belief in all pupils. Our Christian ethos permeates all aspects of school life and Christ's command - "love God and love one another"- is at the heart of our work.
As a sustainable school at the forefront of educational developments, we face the future with tremendous confidence. We are confident that every pupil who joins Edwards will leave having acquired a strong foundation of skills, knowledge and attributes spiritually, morally, intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically and that by realising their potential they can have an appreciation of their worth as technologically competent life-long learners.
